When you choose the wrong path in the game, you can fight the main enemy ship (it's huge). Wing Commander 3 and Wing Commander 4 are the best space fighting simulators of the 90s in my opinion. I like it better than Tie Fighter and X-Wing. Space fighter simulation is cozy and playable. The game engine itself is wisely standard or primitive in a genius way. I should mention great sound design and beautifull costumes of Cat Aliens. Mark Hammil hooks you with his enthusiasm as allways. Ginger Lynn makes me forget her adult-film past for a moment. Other actors create believable athmosphere with passion.
Wilson - the star of Back to The future trilogy - gives high quality perfomance, so the video scenes are far superior than you can expect from computer game or even TV space opera.
Here we have a standart space mission "target destroyed" game mixed with TV sci-fi series.īut the cast for these series is quite strong in terms of "acting". The Confederation is on the ropes and in the end it becomes a question of "Them or Us.".Įverybody are blinded by good or bad "acting" these days. Also Prince Thrakath returns in this game and he's even better in this and John Rhys-Davies (who also plays Paladin) voices him great! Like I said in my review of Wing Commander 2 I think of Thrakath as being among the best villains in game history! The space combat is brilliant! The game play is wonderful including when not in space combat where you choose your responses! As for the storyline its great! After decades of war of which the Terran-Kilrathi war has been raging for 30-35 years (Wing Commander 2 is 10 years after the game). Malcolm McDowell was a great Admiral Tolwyn and how he was presented in this game was better and more believable then in the novels.
Jason Bernard as Captain William Eisen was a great character played and presented every bit a military officer not to mention a human character who cares about his crew and is not all that distant, the type of guy who knows when to let things slide and when to crack the whip. Also choosing which love interest after a certain point in the game was among my favourite touches to it. Also Flash was a good enough character as he progresses provided you make certain choices. Vaquero was a nice character the hope and optimism of his was quite refreshing. Vagabond was a great character with a good back story and also plausible why he's a 1st Lt. Cobra I did not like very much but that's just me. Also Tom Wilson played Maniac great as a good source of mild antagonism and comic relief.
I think of this as the best game in the whole series! Especially with the protagonist finally getting a name and they picked the right man to play Colonel Christopher Blair namely Mark Hamill who is absolutely great! Hamill played the role with warmth, compassion (if you pick good choices for responses when called for), strength, humour and humanity.
